With battery capacities for most smartphones limited to 5000 mAh, the following battery life challenge is to recharge what you have quickly. Fortunately, modern smartphones charge faster than just a few years ago, and it’s widespread to see 25-40W charge speeds.

However, some phones can charge at 60W, 80W, or 180W! At the same time, many OEMs no longer provide a high-speed charger with the smartphone, citing goals of reducing electronic waste. An optional charger accessory is often sold for $45 or more (for a 45W power).

And that’s where high-performance chargers like this EZQuest UltimatePower 90W GaN Wall Charger come into play, particularly for power users who may have multiple USB-C devices to recharge.

The EZQuest UltimatePower 90W features two USB-C and one USB-A port, which allows it to output up to a combined 90W power over USB-C or split the power to charge multiple devices. Overall, you can have

  • 1x 90W USB-C
  • 2x 45W USB-C
  • 1x 24W USB-A + 1x 24W USB-C + 1x 60W USB-C

That means you can charge three devices at a very high speed or even power a light 60W laptop and charge two mobile devices simultaneously.

I tested it with different phones, and the charger maxed out the mobile device’s USB PD (Power Delivery) rating, so this works well.

In our use case at Ubergizmo, we’re heavy travelers. We would rather carry a single power supply like this to power a small laptop (like the Lenovo X1 nano) and a couple of mobile devices rather than having the three original device chargers.

We try aligning all our devices (including toothbrushes) to the USB-PD charging standard so we can easily have backup chargers or share chargers among colleagues. Likewise, if you lose your laptop charger, it’s easy to procure a new USB-C charger worldwide. That’s not true if your laptop uses a proprietary power connector.

The EZQuest UltimatePower 90W costs $79.99 (MSRP official page), but you can find it on Amazon for $69.99 (affiliate link), and there’s even a more interesting 120W version for $79.99, Also on Amazon (affiliate link). Note that prices may change, but this is what we’re seeing as of July 25, 2022.

We haven’t tested the 120W version, but if you have a laptop that draws more than 60W, consider that model instead of the 90W. That said, travelers should note that 75W is typically the maximum wattage for plane seats.

If the laptop tries to pull more than that, the outlet’s safety will disconnect. We’ve heard of 100W in-plane outlets but have not yet seen one in the wild.

We like this product’s build quality, size, and functionality. GaN chargers is a very competitive field, but EZQuest is building a good reputation for itself, and that’s probably an advantage against lesser-known brands with similar products.
